Microsoft confirms IE 8 will ship this year | |

Quick update from Microsoft’s Financial Analyst Meeting (FAM): Microsoft Senior Vice President of Online Services and Windows, Bill Veghte, just told attendees that Microsoft will release the final version of Internet Explorer (IE) 8 to the Web “later this year.” | ||

| Not sure where that is coming from. No, we have several third-party apps that require us to use IE6 to access. |

And some web devs wonder why Microsoft is keeping an IE7 mode available for IE8...
it's unfortunate that IE7 didn't include an IE6 mode, because even though IE7's changes were minor, they are enough to cause huge compatibility issues. Not just for IE7 on XP, but for moving to Vista as well. As for IE8 shipping this year... I highly doubt they will... they've only shipped beta 1 so far, and it was in really rough shape. I'd imagine we have a couple more betas to go, and there's only 5 months left in the year. Maybe Veghte meant fiscal year? |

The rumour is IE8 beta 2 will ship sometime in August... so it's possible for RTM to release in December.
Of course, as #4 said maybe they meant financial year especially when this comment was made at a financial meeting. I hope they dramatically improve the zoom feature - FF3 beats IE7's zoom hands down. |
