Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates (news - web sites) took the witness stand on Monday for the first time in his company's epic antitrust case to warn that sanctions sought by nine states would set the Windows operating system back a decade, harming consumers and the computer industry. Maintaining a smile that contrasted with unflattering video clips played at the original trial, Gates kept his cool under hours of questions from a states' attorney who accused him of exaggerating any damage from the states' proposals. | ||

| That's what people don't understand. The BS added is Windows. The only people that determine what the product called Windows is is Microsoft. It is a package. It wasn't built to fit every individual's definition of what an OS is. It was built to be a platform that pushes new technology to end-users, and provides developers with a known platform to code against so they don't all have to duplicate functionality as they did with DOS. Exe removal is ok, but functionality removal creates problems. In the end, you don't gain much because most of the exes are just small apps having most of their functionality included in dlls provided for developer access to the platform. |

| #8, right because most people would install all the features. Why would you pay money for something to not use it to its fullest? That is like buying a self propelled lawn mower and never using the self-proppeled portion, why spend the extra money for something and then not use it? |
