Due to objections from four countries, the International Organization for Standardization has temporarily put a hold on publishing Microsoft Office Open XML as an ISO standard. Four countries -- Brazil, India, South Africa and Venezuela -- have submitted appeals against the ISO approval of ISO/IEC DIS 29500, the ISO designation for Microsoft OOXML. According to the rules set by ISO and the International Electrotechnical Commission, boards of both groups will review the objections and, if found to be warranted, attempt to reconcile the differences. | ||

| Those are simply the rules - the decision has been made already and any review effort will be to "resolve" issues - not reverse decisions. |

Funny you should mention "the rules', considering they were bent or broken at every turn to benefit Microsoft. It has been well documented and there is no debate about it except from those who would try to spin in Microsoft's favour. The final draft was supposed to be issued soon after the BRM (30 days?), as per the rules, yet it has yet to appear. In this specific instance, the rules have seemingly been flouted or changed on-the-fly during the entire process. For MS or their backers to start spouting about "the rules" now is galling and insulting to the rest of us.

dude, I really think you are ill. Well documented... by Groklaw? I was referring to the title... and reflecting on the facts as published by the ISO. Yes, they are going by the rules and working to examine and resolve issues. These are facts. Give the ISO and the process more credit... oh wait... for you and your kind it isn't about "standards" or cooperation, or anything else short of the destruction of Microsoft and quite probably a great many things here in America. You sit out there benefitting from the massive ecosystem MS created and throw stones and sling arrows... it's not enough that what you advocate rips off features, or grafts itself onto the ideas of others... heck no man... you want the entire ecosystem simply handed over. Standards... standards... standards is your cry... until someone works within them and offers one up... then its all about how the process was circumvented... as if the ISO can't look out for itself? Which is it? Standards, or is the ISO failed? If that is the case forget OXML and we'll go back to a defacto stanard (Office). No debate about it? Sheesh... |
