Unlike the judge who found Microsoft guilty of antitrust violations and ordered the company's breakup, the judge who will set the final penalty is keeping her opinions largely to herself. U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson, who compared Microsoft to a murderous drug gang while presiding over the federal antitrust trial, often hinted at his thinking through interviews, the questions he asked witnesses and his comments from the bench.
His comments ultimately got him removed from the case.
