Bill Buxton won't predict the death of the mouse or the keyboard, but he does see a time coming, sooner than later, when they will be pushed aside by a better idea.
Buxton, a Toronto-based computer design-interface guru hired by Microsoft Corp. about 18 months ago to have a major impact in their research division, says the reason why the mouse has lasted so long -- at least in tech years -- is because it was such a good idea at the time (the mid-'80s).
