Mags, Rags and Forums would have "must buy" labels all over Vista - instead, Pubs like Maximum PC seem to have given up and their pages are filled with reasons not to upgrade and lame assed material written by guys dating Ubuntu. WTF???? From a gamer centric mag?
Did the poles suddenly flip when I was napping? Where Oh where did Boot Magazine go?
All that tells me that people are bored - the PC has evolved and devolved at the same time.
Enthusiasts were the key and among them, gamers and people that respect their endless passion and energy are, or WERE the most enthusiastic among them. Microsoft let them down and at the same time, cost itself the most important arrow in their quiver - that MUST HAVE IT drive that moves all things forward.
We can say that the focus on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii did it - all the power, and spiffy new graphics... BS, Horse-Hockey, and Uh... No! Not have squat as an alternative did it. Gamers are bored, sick of game pads and eager for a freaking keyboard and mouse - and not so they can text their girlfriends or tag some gayffer's <one of my Son's sayings... lord knows what it means, but it sure sounds funny> MySpace page - they text from their phones AS THEY Play games.
So, Microsoft, get off of your duffs, fire up some decent rigs and fix this. When you're done with that, explain to us what you're going to do to fix WMC in Fiji - namely, CableCard Support NOW for HD content and you'd better make it so small OEM's like mine can play, or I'm driving up there and going to demand to know why not.. and then explain why the Xbox Live Market Place can't be accessed from WMC and then tell us why we can't RIP our DVD's/HD-DVD's etc.. to our WMC systems like you said we'd be able to do in Vista - you said you had that one worked out with the content owners - what gives?
And for God's sake, hire some top guys that LOVE PC's and the people that use them - we've seen enough of the lock-step accountants as engineers and marketing people that have never wired a RIG.
