Mary Jo Foley writes: There've been plenty of problems reported by Windows Vista beta testers attempting to run Windows Live Messenger (version 8.0 final and/or 8.1 beta — take your pick). Now that Vista's done, you might think that Windows Live Messenger (WLM) and Windows Vista might be coexisting more peacefully. If you did, you would be wrong. Microsoft knows and begrudgingly admits there's a problem with WLM 8.1 and Vista. A spokeswoman offered the following advice: "Currently, Vista users can use a workaround to avoid any issues. (And, yes, there will be a long term solution in the future.) The key thing to remember is that Windows Live Messenger 8.1 is in beta. When 8.1 releases out of beta, it will have the final stamp of Vista compatible code." | ||

| Does Mary Jo Foley ever write anything about Microsoft in a positive tone? I don't expect her to glow over everything or anything like that, but everything she writes seems to have this sarcastic, negative edge to it.... |

#1, No kidding.
Also, any business at all serious about effective and secure IM is running LCS 2005. We do and it's awesome and runs perfectly on Vista. Well before Jan 30, 2007, I am certain public versions of Live will run well enough. I think Jo Foley and many other pundits think they have to act like this toward Microsoft in order to maintain their "street cred" - which is really funny - in a sick way - as if that matters at all, and if it did, if she/they would ever be taken seriously on the "street" The "street" she needs to cow to is the bottom-line business person, or serious user and certainly techs, admins and devs.... where she's a joke [technically]. Instead, she cows to her own kind - and off they all trot to sip designer caffeine free, sugar free, sodium free, crap out of recycled "ONLY" paper cups and congratulate themselves on how cleverly they have confronted Microsoft. I wonder how silly she will feel one day when her grandkids ask her why she has a "Get Firefox" tattoo on her foot? <Kidding here, of course... as I have no idea if she does or not...> - but you get my point - she'd be the type to do just that. Journalism deserves better - but don't count on it ever appearing in any objective way - ever - that seems to have left the house when FDR passed away and Democrats and Republicans traded names and policies. |
