It should be mentioned that Symantec, and probably others, are already at work side-stepping the problem, even while complaining about it. With the new Vista design changes, they can write drivers at the user level, without the need for kernel level drivers and access, and still get the job done. And while they are at it, maybe they can make their products lighter, faster, and work better. They are just cranky because they have to change how they hook into the lower levels, and didn't want to have to think about a better way of doing things. The down side is that they will probably have to have 2 separate product streams, one for XP / 2003, which does things the old way, and one for Vista only, which does things the new way, which will likely be incompatible with older OSes.
