A federal judge is hoping an outside mediator will help Microsoft Corp. reach a settlement to end dozens of private class action lawsuits that allege the company used its monopoly power to overcharge people for its software. U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz on Tuesday urged parties in the suit to meet with Kenneth Feinberg, who recently was named to oversee a government compensation fund for victims of the Sept. 11 attacks and their families.
