Test Drive could possibly be the most famous racing game moniker in history. Sure, other games have had their successes in the arcades and on the consoles such as OutRun, Pole Position, and Daytona USA, but even without coin-op support, the Test Drive name is more widely recognizable. What helps is that Test Drive has been in the title of close to sixty games for both console and PC, going all the way back to 1987 with Commodore 64 and DOS PC SKU’s. It seems like just about every developer out there has had a crack at designing a Test Drive title. Companies such as Distinctive Software, Eutechnyx, Monster Games, Angel, Pitbull, etc. have created a Test Drive title in some form or another. Atari gained control of the series when Accolade was bought out, so now it’s their job to pick and choose how this famed franchise continues its legacy.
