ICICI OneSource Dumps Microsoft Office For Sun | |

ICICI OneSource, a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services provider, has undertaken a bold move of switching its desktops from Microsoft Office to Sun’s StarOffice 7, saving a whopping Rs 72 lakh in the bargain. Speaking to CXOtoday, Prashanth MJ, vice president – technology, ICICI OneSource, said, “We have 4250 desktops, out of which 10% currently employ StarOffice 7. We have so far saved around Rs 72 Lakh, and there is a plan to expand the deployment to include 25 % of the total number of desktops as per our company strategy.” | ||

“There will be a challenge in sending documents across to clients, most of who use Microsoft Office.” Hey, no problem. Our faithful employees will deal with it along with our suppliers and customers - we hope.
I remember when Office was just getting its start and Word Perfect was the ubiquitous word processing program (WP was still a DOS-based program then). Employees would go out and buy there own copy of either Word or Office and put it on their work computers so they could get there work done. It was that much better. I'll bet this Prshanth MJ is a real (expletive deletive) star with employees around his company that get the "honor" of having Office taken away and Star Office put on their workstations. |

| #1 Maybe now that they are looking at free alternatives Microsoft will offer them free copies of Office. |
