Windows Messenger moves IM to a new level | |

Windows Messenger, the instant messaging (IM) software included in Microsoft's Windows XP operating system, moves the concept of IM to a new level and could further intensify competition among the top three IM providers. What is so different about Windows Messenger is collaboration: Users can now work together on the same application, instead of just exchanging messages about a joint project. Even before the arrival of Windows Messenger, Microsoft was narrowing the gap separating its second-place MSN Messenger from first-place AOL Instant Messenger, also known as AIM. Yahoo, meanwhile, continues running a strong third with its Yahoo Messenger. The feature race between America Online, Microsoft and Yahoo is important because IM is evolving into a new form of communication. | ||

| Windows Messenger seriously looks awesome. Windows Messenger is great a big improvement over the original. Now if they added a history that would be great. |

Thanks Anon thats a pretty cool little tweak. I would still like for MS to include this on their own though. But its nice to have even so.

yeah I'm glad they've taken this direction w/ messenger...I knew they would, after the Justice Dept. said during the AOL-TW convergance, that AOL only had to make it's IM compatible w/ other IM's if it was an advanced client that included broadband apps such as video conferencing..lol..as soon as they said that I knew M$ would go staright to work on integrating NetMeeting into Messenger..and sure enough they did...so now if AOL wants to keep up they'll also have to go in that direction automatically being forced to open up they're IM network..should be interesting! :) This post was edited by Tegument on Monday, October 22, 2001 at 13:43. |

#7, don't blame the app for your completle and absolute stupidity.
First, it's a beta, and second, it's not meant for the XP version of Messenger (Windows Messenger), it's meant as an upgrade to MSN Messenger. Windows Messenger will have an update on Oct. 25th for you to download. |

Actually I installed in on Windows Messenger on XP. Works fine for me . . .
