Symantec Releases Public Beta of PCAnywhere 10.5 | |

pcAnywhere v10.5 now adds support for Windows XP as well as several new features and enhancements including: Full Compatibility with Windows XP, Host Security Assessment Tool, "Rebootless" Host, Logging Enhancements,Status Icon. This preview beta is time-stamped and will expire on November 30 2001. We are very interested in your feedback on this product. We will give away 25 FREE copies of pcAnywhere 10.5 to the first 25 beta users that submit undocumented bugs. We will also randomly select 25 beta users who complete the beta survey after installing and testing the beta release. I've been running this for about a week, seems fine, no problems yet...
The "Rebootless Host" is actually pretty useful, you can use SMS or similar to install it on remote desktops without user intervention (using pcAnywhere option sets and packages) and not require a system reboot in the process... finally... now if Microsoft would only stop requiring a reboot for practically every hotfix they come out with.... :) |

| No, Symantec is really bad about that, unless your a corporate user with upgrade protection, you have to pay an upgrade fee (not worth it unless your running XP)... 9.0 and 9.2 were the same way, if you had Windows 2000 you had to pay again... |
