Microsoft patch process called into question | |

Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Update patch management program has a critical shortcoming that in some cases could fool users into thinking their systems are properly patched against some vulnerabilities when in fact they are not. That warning comes from Russ Cooper, moderator of the popular NTBugtraq mailing list and an analyst at Reston, Va.-based TruSecure Corp. But Stephen Toulouse, a security program manager at Microsoft, strongly disagreed with Cooper's claim about Windows Update, calling it unfounded. | ||

| The only problem I've _ever_ had with windowsupdate is that it currently tries to tell me that it's NVidia driver for May 2003 is a "critical patch". (I have Det. 45.23 installed on Windows XP) |

And GNU sat on this news for over two weeks and released the news when MSBlast would overshadow it.
That is interesting timing. I'm going to save this one, print it out and put it in my book of "Examples of why Linux zealots talk out of their rear waste evacuation holes." Heck, I didn't even notice this on the slashdot frontpage yesterday. But then, I haven't been following /. that much lately. |
