A new computer virus, Sobig, is spreading on the Internet, according to alerts posted by a number of antivirus software companies. Sobig is a worm that uses e-mail and shared network folders to infect machines running Microsoft's Windows operating system, according to information posted on the Web site of Helsinki antivirus company F-Secure. | ||

| This isn't the only ".pif" virus around, we've seen this behavior before. Now we just block that attachment type. Basically, if they want to send us a virus, it needs to be compressed in a zipfile...and that defeats the point. |

| I was sent this virus a couple of days ago, and traced its source to China. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean it originated there. But then again, it doesn't mean it didn't either. |

It depends on your firewall. My Linksys BEFSR41 will send SNMP traps to a machine, which I can then log and do reporting on. Most of the hits these days come from ports 53 and 137. I receive very little traffice against port 80. |
