"of color"? That sounds so 1960's like "negro".
What's the proper PC term now? It seems like "black" is the current informal or semi-formal term. As long as you call Whites "white", it's not offense, as it's equal, IMHO. African-American doesn't seem right since most of the people here in the US were born in the US. I don't go around calling myself Irish-American or Dutch-American because I'm like 5-6 generational. Most blacks are probably more than that even. So what's the term? "of color" just sounds wrong to me for some reason. More offensive, to me at least, than "black" is. "of color" seems derrogatory somehow. It sounds similar to "those people" or "different people" as opposed to just saying "black" people which is neither negative nor positive. |

We are all "of color"
But anyway... I think she meant just more than black. What term would you use to group blacks, mexicans, chinese, japanese, etc. whose skin color is other than white? |
