Threat to 10 million Java Goal from Microsoft, Says Gosling | |

Sun Microsystems Inc's plan for 10 million Java programmers in three years faces its biggest obstacle from Microsoft Corp, according to Java creator James Gosling. Gosling has also given a cool reception to Sun's plans for a planned worldwide branding campaign with partners, which is designed to attract consumers. In a recent meeting with press, Gosling, a Sun fellow and vice president, said he believes his company's goal of 10 million Java programmers, though simplifications to the language and programming tools, is easy to reach. | ||

Like I've said before, pretty good comp. scientists Gosling is, commentator and strategist Gosling isn't.
Like most guys in positions like his, he thinks because he made a half-way cool language that he has instant credibility in everything marketing to global IT policy and direction. Gosling is largely an idiot when it comes most of that other stuff and continues to open his mouth, embarassingly so, to remove all doubt about just how much of an idiot he is. I guess he has to apostlize Java because his job and his CS credibility depends upon its success, but it's still pretty assinine to think that Java will start growing rapidly anytime soon. I think people have realized that .NET is the way to go, unless you absolutely hate MS (AMBer), then Java is the next best thing |
