Sun Microsystems Chief Executive Scott McNealy and corporate partners will unveil an alliance Wednesday for handling computer users' "digital identity," an effort likely aimed at Microsoft's Passport system for storing personal information and controlling access to Internet sites. Sun representatives declined to detail the alliance, but the target is clear. Sun and other Microsoft competitors have waged a steady campaign against Microsoft's Passport as a way to give people a digital identity on the Internet. Sun instead favors a neutral method that's not controlled by a single company. A source inside Sun said the project is internally dubbed "Liberty," and remains in the very early stages of development. | ||

Isn't Passport an open 'technology' now, which is not necessarily controlled by one company? Maybe Sun missed that announcement.

I agree, Sun, AOL, etc. just got caught off guard. Whining that Microsoft doesn't innovate. Then when Microsoft comes out with something new, what's their response? To copy it. Stupid whiners. |

Banks don't use Sun... They run off Mainframes from IBM, etc.
It's funny, with all the talk and blather of both the Unix and Windows guys... The Mainframes still beat them hands down for large scale transaction processing by factors with numerous 0's in them. |

Funny, those same companies have also signed on to use Passport.
