It doesn't seem that the price has been set yet. I think I'll reserve judgement until it goes to production and we know what the capabilities/costs will be. |

Why wait, Bob, it's pretty clear. Even if the subscription charge is $2 a month, it's too much. Renesis is right--only kids, geeks, and losers wear digital watches. Now they will be bigger and goofier. And they will only work in the US and fringes of Canada and Mexico--and at that, maybe only in major metro areas... Come on, at best these appeals to a small subset (people who want to pay a subscription charge for their watch and don't own a cellphone and need to know the weather on a different coast even though the watch might not pick up an FM signal and who wants everyone to know he likes to wear the geekiest, biggest, most expensive for what you get watch) of an already small subset (American digiwatch wearers) of an already small subset (digital watch wearers).
They should have started with the magents, not the watches. |

How am I wrong, Jagged? You qualify as all three. Are you really suggesting that anything more than, say, 2% of the watch wearing world (and as I said, this is actually just an American product with NO international viability) wants this crap? If these products require a subscription fee, they will fail. Period.
The service NEEDS to be free to catch on. This is the more viable scenario: People buy cheap devices like watchs or magnets, and they instantly start working right out of the box. Every once in a while (perhaps two or three times an hour) a simple text or graphic ad shows on the screen for 5 seconds. Or perhaps there is an option to show the ads for 3 seconds, but twice as many times. But you get the point. These ads would pay for the service, which would be very cheap to operate anyway since radio broadcasting equipment is very cheap to buy and maintain, especially if they simply pay radio stations to throw a box in their studio and hook it up to their antenna. After a while, once these things of caught on, THEN you can start doing cooler stuff and charging for it. Not before then. |
