It's very easy.
The IT department has to support ALL users on XP, not just that one user. It may not be prepared to do that, and there is nothing wrong with that.
If Office 97 is their corporate standard, then it's their corporate standard.
There are so many that don't understand the corporate roll-out process, and what it entails. Especially when you are developing for 5000, 10,000 or even more users.
Images have to be created. Software has to be tested and qualified/approved. Support processes have to be created.
It can be a daunting process, and too many don't understand just how difficult it is to incorporate a new product and start the certification process all over again.
If Office 97 works for them, then so be it.
