I wasn't impressed when the settlement terms in the Microsoft antitrust case were merely "proposed," a little less than one year ago, so it shouldn't be hard to predict my reaction to the pair of rulings that finally came down this past Friday evening. In short words, the company broke the law--and got away with it. It's been a while, I know, since the Court of Appeals upheld the original trial's Findings of Fact, sending only the question of appropriate remedy back to the lower court for reconsideration. But as I noted at the time, one of the crucial questions was whether Microsoft could freely stifle potential competing technologies without abusing its monopoly powers. The company claimed that the very novelty of alternative platforms, such as the Java-enabled browser, kept them from being part of the market in which Microsoft's monopoly exists. | ||

| jvm: On the contrary, in many places, AOL TimeWarner is a monopoly. Here, the only way to get cable TV is through AOLTW, the only way to get cable internet is AOLTW. |

Why isn't sodajerk here? I'm not much of a fan for visiting a website where everybody agrees with one another, and the others are idiotic trolls.
I'm going to start arguing the anti-MS point of view here if things don't change. :) |

| Getting back to the question of "monopoly" the only cable sevice available here is AT&T, why? Because the cables companies operating here in Miami divided the city in "zones of influence" and one doesn't invade the zones of the others. This is called a "cartel" and it is an "oligopoly" which is a "monopoly" run by few entities instead than a single one. I am wondering where are our State Representatives? Are they so busy spending a fortune, in spite of the fact that their legal papers are "inspired" and "supervised" by AOL n SUN, to go after MS that they can't defend my rights against cable companies? Well Tuesday is payback day! |
