Spielberg Titles To Finally Hit DVD In 200

A Spielberg 2000 : Alright, I don't need to say it anymore. Sure, Hook is nice, Duel may be cool and 1941 has its charms, but we all want the big "A" list Steven Spielberg titles on DVD, don't we? Whether you are a longtime reader or just got a player this Christmas, you've undoubtedly noticed the lack of Spielberg titles on the shelves, or followed the story's twists and turns over the past couple of years. We've all heard the rumblings of the big Spielberg guns coming in 2000, and of course Mr. S himself saw fit to finally release some serious DVD offerings recently, most notably the stellar edition of Saving Private Ryan last November.

Now, information has come on the sly from Universal that all of our hard-won patience will finally be paying off. Whether you just love dinosaurs or want to see if CG effects become dated really fast, you'll get your chance when two of the director's biggest hits are on the release schedule for the second half of 2000. Both Jurassic Park and The Lost World will bow for the first time on DVD in all their digital glory. And you perceptive readers also may have noticed that a certain hungry shark will be celebrating his 25th anniversary in 2000 as well...

As for the specs on the discs and dates, I honestly have no idea. I was only given this very limited information, and these are the only Spielberg-directed titles that have been approved for release by Universal. I'm hearing a press release will not arrive for at least a few months or so, but the web pump is beginning to be primed by those involved to generate excitement, and the announcement will be accompanied by some pretty big promotional efforts by Universal (like they need to?) Of course I hope they do them right (or else I may have to beat them up), and needless to say stay tuned for any new information that comes in the coming months. I'm with you if you've already started to mark your calendars in anticipation of these titles! And now that leaves only some guy named Lucas as really the sole big-time director sorely underrepresented on DVD...
