Microsoft Demonstrates NetShow Theater Server Streaming Technology At the 1998 Western Cable Show

What: Microsoft® NetShow™ Theater Server, which provides video-on-demand services for the residential broadband markets, will be demonstrated at Booth 4667, Hall D, during exhibit hours at the 1998 Western Cable Show.

The demonstration will include streaming DVD-quality video to set-top boxes for WebTV™ in a typical pay-per-view home application integrated with the WebTV service and user experience. NetShow Theater Server streams MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 video up to 8 Mb per second per stream, allowing full-screen video with 720x480 resolution at 30 frames per second to stream to the new Windows® CE operating system-based set-top box for WebTV.

The first residential trial of this video server will occur in Montgomery, Texas, in the first quarter of 1999 in association with StreamGate Inc. StreamGate will integrate NetShow Theater Server with digital file servers, major movie content, and a suite of content management services to create a complete video-on-demand add-in system for cable operators.

NetShow Theater Server may also be seen in a video-on-demand demo at the StreamGate booth, No. 862, Hall A. In addition, NetShow Theater Server is being demonstrated in the IMedia Corp. booth, No. 3063, Hall C, integrated with the new IMedia CherryPicker, which features an efficient way for cable, satellite and broadcast operators to compress, switch, splice and groom digital video streams for retransmission.

When: Dec. 2-4, 1998
