Microsoft Great Plains Selects Crystal Decisions For Microsoft Customer Relationship Management | |

Microsoft Great Plains Business Solutions and Crystal Decisions Inc. today announced that Crystal Decisions will provide the reporting, analysis and information delivery capabilities within Microsoft® Customer Relationship Management (CRM). The new OEM and reseller agreement will give Microsoft CRM customers access to Crystal Enterprise to gain insight into their customer data, identify high-value opportunities, predict short- and long-term revenue, and distribute information across their organization for better decision-making. Microsoft CRM will be available later this year; it is the first Microsoft business solution built on Microsoft .NET. The announcement was made at DCI’s Customer Relationship Management Conference and Exposition. | ||

| I wonder if this will lead to Crystal replacing FRx as the report writer for the other compoents of the Great Plains package. It seems to me, it would be a bit odd to tell users that they need to learn two different report writing tools to utilize the entire product. |

Yeah, this is pretty disappointing--I really don't comprehend how Crystal is the standard for Report writing and serving. Bernard, how is FRx?
It's interesting our CRM provider is moving towards an all web-based system, and this transition was the motivation for dropping Crystal. It's web-enabled capabilities are limited, kludgy, and expensive, and not easy for a third party to integrate... So they went with Actuate, which I haven't run in a heavy production environment yet (I've heard of some bugginess), but I do greatly prefer the dev tools and many other features. I'm happy. The reason I point this out is our CRM provider is an MS partner so I assume MS are learning quite a bit about CRM and such from them... And doesn't everyone hate Crystal? I don't know maybe I'm wrong. But anyway, not only is Crystal providing the reporting functionality for GP, but at the Crystal site you'll see that MS is using Crystal to develop reporting fucntionality for VS.Net. Uhh! |

| #$ and #5, check out the actuate stuff--www.actuate.com. Their server isn't rock solid but their dev tools are nice. (after all, any reporting tool is going to be SQL when you get down to it.) I was hoping to hear from Bernard about FRx, I'm not familiar with it. |
