Iowa Consumers Can Sue Microsoft, Court Rules | |

An Iowa lawyer on Friday vowed to push forward with a class action lawsuit against Microsoft Corp. after the state Supreme Court ruled consumers could sue the world's largest software maker for having been allegedly overcharged for Windows when they bought PCs. The original lawsuit, filed in February 2000, accuses Microsoft of unlawfully "maintaining its monopoly power by anti-competitive and unreasonably exclusionary conduct" and artificially driving up the price of Windows 98. "People who bought Windows 98 probably paid about $40 too much," said Des Moines attorney Roxanne Barton Conlin. A lower court dismissed the lawsuit in August 2000, ruling that state law precludes consumers from suing software makers if they buy the software from PC manufacturers and not directly from the software companies, she said. On appeal, the Iowa Supreme Court reversed that decision on Wednesday, saying nothing in the state law says that "in order to seek redress for antitrust violations a purchaser must be directly injured." | ||

| If these people bought Windows 98 as part of a new computer, they probably didn't pay more than $40 for it. I wonder if these are people that wanted *nix with their new PC instead, and think that it's unfair they got Windows. Would they have preferred paying $120 for MacOS, etc.? |

Fools, one of the first computers was INVENTED in Iowa. Get a clue.
Secondly, the pics of animals comes from insane, perverted, city folk. We don't care to look at pics of animals, as we can look out a window and see them in the flesh. And beastiality is not something that happens here any more than where you live, ya sickos. I'm an Iowan, and proud of it. I hail from Waterloo, whence the Sullivan Brothers came. Many other Iowans are reknowned as well. Keep your small minds on your sad pr0n collection. Other mistakes about Iowa: we all live on farms. *BUZZ!* Nope. We actually have cities....no really, we do. We're inbred: no, that's Utah, Georgia, and Alabama, sorry. Other neat Iowa facts: we ahve one of the best anti-spam laws on the books, Iowa code 714E. Go check it out. Can the same be said for where you live? Since you knew not, you were fools; now you know, and are better for it. |

Sorry about the rant. I just get SO tired of people ragging against Iowa. It's almost like we did something terribly wrong a long time ago and it's still being used against us. If some idiot on a TV show needs a state to instantly insult, he'll grab Iowa. It's just sad. So, cut us some slack! If it wasn't for some of our residents not knowing how to secure their supply of anhydrous ammonia, none of you'd have any meth! ;) [that's a joke] |
