PCI-SIG, the special interest group in charge of the ubiquitous PCI standard for plugging components such as network cards into computers, has elected new leaders from IBM and Microsoft, the group will announce Wednesday. Tony Pierce, technical evangelist for Microsoft's Hardware Strategy Group, is now chairman and vice president, while Al Yanes, a senior engineer for IBM's eServer Development Group, is president. Previously, Roger Tipley of Compaq Computer was chairman and president. The group also elected Lawrence Lamers from Adaptec to be a director. | ||

I am the only one who believes that we desperately need a need standard that is faster than PCI. Sure processor speed has increased, and so has the front side bus(marginally), but still the PCI interface contributes to the overall slower performance of systems. Think about it we are now running configurations with:
Processor: Well over 1.5Ghz Ram: 333MHz And yet the PCI interface bogs the system down. |

| I will admit that I know very little about hardware, but isn't InfiniBand a developing technology to get beyond the limitations of PCI? |

Harddrive is still tied to the PCI bus, even though it's integrated into the motherboard.
