Microsoft has been ordered to stop showing a TV commercial for its Xbox games console after it was dubbed "offensive, shocking and in bad taste".
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) received 136 complaints about the ad claiming it has caused "considerable distress to many viewers".
The ad starts with a woman giving birth to a baby boy. Immediately after the birth, the infant is shot out of a window, and ages rapidly as he travels at speed through the air.
He screams throughout the journey before violently crashing into his own grave as an old man. The advertisement ends with the line "Life is short. Play more".

Note: You can view the ad from Microsoft's site, Playmore.com.

I know a few people who were really offended by this Ad, and all of them are reasonable, bright people.

I am all for the ad. I am 100% for freedom of speech. I am 100% for freedom of choice. I am 100% for the free enterprise. The consumer can choose to change the channel if they don't care for an ad. There is nothing sexual about the ad. There is nothing illegal or derrogatory about the ad. The ad is not racist. The ad doesn't depict anything that is not a part of a human's ever day life.
If someone thinks the ad is vulgar, violent and desecrating, then they should:
a. Ignore the ad
b. Change the channel
c. Accept the fact that there is freedom of choice, and media rights
the fact that the ITC banned this ad without any merit is sickening, and just another nail in the coffin to eliminate freedom.
Obviously, this ad was seen by the networks prior to televising, and was also approved by a marketing company and Microsoft...obviously in the hands of probably hundreds if not thousands of people before it ever went live.
If you don't like something, don't do it, watch it, listen to it, complain about it. Move on with your life.
EDIT UPDATE (Microsoft Speaks):
Quoted from article: "We have been asked by the ITC to remove [the ad] from television in the UK only due to a **minority of viewers** who complained about the commercial."
Sickening. I usually have (and still do) have high respect for the UK.

Those of you who find this ad unfunny should definitely not ever go to the movies.
I have to tell you that this ad IS funny. It's funny because of its irreverence. A wise man once said "As a commedian, if you haven't offended someone, you're not doing your job."
I find things in "real life" that are far more offensive than some ad with a flailing birth, screaming flight, and deadly thud in a tomb....like the fact that people are dying in the middle east because they're Jewish (or Palestinian). That angers me, not some ad.
Get your priorities right, Mmm'kay?

That's funny... what I find disgusting is people who support censorship, regardless of the content of the ad.
If you don't like the ad, change the channel and don't buy the product.
Personally, I find the ad somewhat shocking... but that's the point - it sticks in your head. I also find it very creative... and have the desire to say "whoa" after viewing it.
Perhaps it's time for a refreshing quote:
"I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." - Voltair

#33 - "Since the kids seem obsessed with their rights nowadays, put it this way: For all the same reasons that you're allowed to be offensive, people should also be allowed to turn the tv on and not be offended by a tv commercial."
Kids obsessed with their rights? I agree many kids cite Constitutional rights when they probably have never even read the Constitution, but some of us take our country and our rights VERY seriously, and some of us educate ourselves about our rights - perhaps you should do the same.
And, actually, no. You do NOT have the right not to be offended... that would give you the ability to silence ANYBODY from saying ANYTHING. And that is EXACTLY what the founding fathers of the United States wanted to prevent.
Think of it this way: if it doesn't pick your pocket or break your leg, it's not a crime (to paraphrase Jefferson), and you therefore do NOT have a right to prevent it. Emotional "hurt" doesn't count when it comes to the law... or at least the Constitution and the founding fathers believed it shouldn't.
It makes me ill to hear somebody make a statement like the one you made. These kinds of beliefs are EXACTLY what is going wrong with the United States. I bet you have a flag on your SUV.

I quite liked it the first time - the only complaint I have about it - is that as an advert for a console it sucked ass!

Sweet ad!!!
Lots of ads are like this one in form. They show a situation, then say some catch phrase("life is short", in this case), then product logo(the cool xbox logo). Nothing wrong with the format.
