Major video game publishers see online games of the kind previewed this week by Microsoft Corp. as the wave of the future, but warn it will be years before investment returns begin to match the hype. The slow adoption of high-speed Internet access in the United States and untested business models make the new frontier of online gaming through consoles an interesting but uncertain proposition, executives of the top independent publishers said. | ||

| Yes, and Everquest is a Sony division, not MS. EA and Activision both have hugely popular online games (Ultima, Tony Hawk) as well (which won't work with XBox Live), and yet they are saying it's not popular enough to be profitable. All of the top online-pc games (Lineage, for example) are games which are on their own networks, and hence won't be supported by XBox Live. Yeah, you made a great poinbt alright. |
