Microsoft's next big headache: The Google Chromebook | |

Since the PC industry's growth has gone flatter than a map drawn in the Dark Ages, any faint trace of momentum is promising -- or terrifying, if you're Microsoft. Samsung says consumers are starting to embrace and understand Chromebooks, which essentially only run the Web. The company says it has noticed a drop-off in retail returns of Chromebooks, which Samsung attributes to Google's improving Chrome OS software and the Chromebook hardware being more usable for the average person. But there's a larger shift at play as well. Smartphones and tablets are becoming more powerful, and the PC is becoming less important for our daily needs. Outside of what we do at work, most of what we actually need a laptop for is what a Chromebook is limited to: Web browsing. | ||

Windows 8 hurt PC sales, that's already been proven. It's Microsoft that keeps getting in the way of it's success.
Maybe Windows 9 will stop the bleeding. |

| We live in a time when anyone can post how bad Windows 8 is, I've been using Windows 8.1 Pro since it release, it's near perfect. I use it on my desktop PC with a non-touch 27" monitor, not a single issue. As to the Chromebook it's good, but my Android tablet does all I want. I never plan to use cloud storage or an OS that's dependent on a Wi-Fi connection. Windows slip in sales is partly due to tablet sales, the majority of users don't need a full function computer. |

What does that even mean??? We've been able to post opinions online for the past 20+ years now. And yes, Windows 8 is ass. 8.1 isn't much better. |

I think it's akin to FOX News. Much of what Fox broadcasts is nonsense because that's what it's listeners buy into. Do some FOX stories have merit? I guess, but even after others are proven bogus, they keep broadcasting them. IMO many sites, reviewers, bloggers, and commenters have climbed on the bash Windows 8 bandwagon because it was the hip thing to do and it ginned up hits. Don't get me wrong, Windows 8 had plenty of flaws, but let's face it, it isn't nearly as bad as some sites and reviewers lead you to believe. It got better with 8.1 and I suspect update 1 will be even better. That said, it will probably not change many people's minds because that's not want sells. Microsoft is on the right course with windows - one device makes sense, Whether Microsoft is the one to bring this vision to fruition remains to be seen, but some company will. |
