A newly leaked build of Windows 8.1 shows a few interesting fit and finish changes to the coming update for Windows 8 and RT. But the biggest change, I think, is that the firm is finally abandoning one of the key differences between the Windows 8/RT user experience and that of Windows Phone 8. And by finally adopting a key user interface element found in that latter, more mature mobile product, Microsoft is doing the right thing. | ||

The baked in SkyDrive default save-to location in Windows 8.1, not discussed in the article, baffles me. Microsoft is supposedly dropping the name SkyDrive. Yet, they make SkyDrive the default (easy to change) save location. What happens when the name is changed. Again Microsoft is building future confusion into Windows 8.1 with the default save to location, much like Office 2013 has, and the upcoming name change for SkyDrive. Will MS never learn?
I like Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. My customers like our customization to make it user friendly for them, something 8 and 8.1 are not, out of the box. The easiest customization is to move the Desktop tile to the upper left corner of the Start screen, so hitting the Enter key takes you to the Desktop. Why hasn't MS put the Desktop tile in the upper left corner of Windows 8 and 8.1 so older people with unsteady hands can easily and quickly get to the Desktop they want to use by just tapping the Enter key? MS still acts like it despises its non-business customers. Stop it MS. |
