#2: I'm not so sure.
The problem with all of these other devices is that they don't replace anything. Sure I can take notes in a meeting with my iPAD using a Nerf dart as a pen, but then I have to mail myself the notes so I can actually do something with them on my laptop. Windows 8 takes care of that and add in AD authentication and there are some real advantages here.
I know some people are clamoring for the start menu but if you think about it, metro is the start menu. Frankly I think the Win 7 start menu sucks; I much prefer the expanding menus of XP and the metro UI kinda of mimics that.
To make everyone happy, there should be a docking station that defaults the tablet to the standard desktop when docked and the metro interface when undocked.
For full blown work stations, if users can't adapt then leave them on Windows 7!
Personally, I think the metro interface on a large screen is extremely impressive, but to be truly successful, it needs many, many killer apps.
