Bill Gates Thought Steve Jobs Was "Weirdly Flawed" And "Fundamentally Odd" | |

Bill Gates had a lot of respect for Steve Jobs as an inventor of great products, but also thought he was a very strange person. That's according to Walter Isascon's upcoming official Jobs biography, which is due out next Monday. The Huffington Post got a hold of a copy early and published some excerpts today. Gates told Isaacson that Jobs was "fundamentally odd" and "weirdly flawed as a human being." As Gates put it, Jobs was ""either in the mode of saying you were shit or trying to seduce you." | ||

Everyone has their oddities.
I think it's really poor taste the way people knock the man after he's passed. None of them had the balls to say it to his face when he was alive. |

Anyone see the 60 Minutes piece on him last night. The guy was a bit of an ass. He was rude to his co-workers and strangers. For a time he never bathed. He never reconciled with his biological father even though he himself ignored his first daughter for a decade before acknowledging his responsibility toward her both financially and parentally. He was pretty much a pompous ass with a serious God complex that ultimately cost him his life.
So, it kind of floors me to see all these tributes for a latter day P.T. Barnum who preyed on weak-minded fools who have an unhealthy desire to be cool as a substitution for real human accomplishment, who continue to purchase minor incremental improvements to a product that fills the void of their lack luster lives. Hey, I have an iPad and I think it great but I’m not gonna put Steve Jobs on a pedestal with Jonas Salk or for that matter not even with Vladimir Kosma Zworykin. |

Lest we forget, Gates invested $150 million in Apple in 1997. The deal was struck with non voting shares and a promise on Gates' part that he would support Office on the Mac for at least five years. Apple agreed to drop a long running lawsuit against Microsoft.
Remember Jobs was trying to make a come back at Apple at a time when Apple had lost is way (18 months of losses at this point). It's likely that without Microsoft's help, the Apple turn around that Jobs performed would not have taken place. On the strength of this deal, Jobs was named "interim CEO!" Ironlically, even today, despite the other wildly popular products that Apple has produced, the Mac remains a niche computer product. It is over priced and starved of great software. |
