I really don't see the sense in this. I see the enterprise mobile market as the huge opportunity Microsoft is missing (rather than forging head-first into the consumer space against Google and Apple), but they should do it without RIM. RIM definitely has the best enterprise security and manageability story, but Microsoft could easily focus on this by improving the current products and System Center integration. And as granular as the controls are for the BES, 5.0 seems like a MESS. Even if they did buy them, there's no real way to integrate their products--the BES and RIM NOCs would be gone, the BlackBerry OS is gone already, QNX would be dumped... the only real benefit would be their IP.
Sure, partner with them on Bing, and make/contract out a Lync app for them, etc., but buy them for $15B??? C'mon. What is that analyst smoking?
