EVERETT, Wash. -- Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has added a restored Russian-made fighter jet to his collection of vintage airplanes. The Herald newspaper reports one of Allen's companies closed on the purchase of the MiG-29 last week. | ||

| LOL a kiwi (sic) brought a fighter jet from Russia as well. Paid for it and it rocked up. He opened it up and fell over in shock. The stupid thing was fully armed. Missiles, fuel pods, bombs, gun ammo lol. He probably had more power in the crate than the entire NZ air force lol. Amazing what you buy off Trade me (ebay equiv) these days. |

Pual Allen, the man that never grew up with sports teams and a quaint airplane museum. What a bust.
Meanwhile, Allen bought the fighter that helped convinced communist Soviet Union to go belly up. Speaking of belly up, at least to those that didn't move smartly to Iran in the first Gulf War it was F15s 5 - MiG29s 0 (even a Tornado downed one in that conflict). Of course, you may count as wins the downing of 3 Cessna 337s over Cuba in 1996. I am sure that murdering thug Castro did. This was an aircraft that sported a 30mm cannon. Its extremely limited "legs" required it to mount a center line fuel tank to have any range at all. However, you couldn't fire the cannon with it mounted! Oops! It wasn't until years later that it had the capability for air-to-air refueling and then only a limited number were outfitted. I could go on, but you get the idea. Suffice it to say that it was designed by a communist government committee . . . . |
