The Desktop is Dead! Long Live the Desktop! | |

Over the past few years, technology pundits have been decrying desktop PCs as dead or dying. It’s certainly true that due to the recent bad economy, along with greatly reduced laptop prices, desktop PC sales have dramatically dwindled. As a result the writing is on the wall for the desktop PC that it will soon be nothing more than a fading memory. This ideology is complete and utter nonsense, and the tech pundits should be ashamed of themselves for being proponents of it. In many aspects of business, and even consumer usage, the desktop is unnecessary. You don’t need a desktop for email, documents, spreadsheets. Programmers usually don’t need a desktop for their work. Most mundane tasks can be handled with a laptop, a netbook, and even a smartphone in some cases. | ||

I don't know how Steve Jobs can be a visionary [iPhone] and an idiot [some of his recent statements] at the same time. the new Jekyl and Hyde - US style!
If Jobs says the end of the desktop PC is coming [and most define the PC as any computer - Windows, Mac or Linux based] then why does Apple still sell them? |

| #1: As the CEO of a large tech company, he is contractually obliged to issue more than 3 but less than 10 completely idiotic statements per year. He doesn't have to actually believe them himself; he just has to say them so that they will have their desired effect: hyping, squashing, FUdding, spinning, you name it. |
