Although Microsoft's Office Open XML (OOXML) document format became an ISO standard two years ago, the company still hasn't built any software that truly complies with the standard. Microsoft Office 2010, which is expected to be released later this year, implements the deprecated "transitional" version of the format and is not compatible with the version that was crafted by the standards body. | ||

| Wow, it looks like all the people (myself included) who thought MSXML was a cynical ploy for standards certification foisted on the world via stacked committees were spot-on, and that MS never intended on following through with its promises moving forward. Now the guy that carried MS's water for years on this issue has admitted that he was fooled by Microsoft's empty promises as well. While I appreciate his candor, it's certainly a few years too late. There is a small measure of shadenfreude watching all the commenters on his blog dumping "I told you so"s all over him. Not too many supportive comments from microbots there. I guess there are some MS positions you really can't torque enough to defend. |
