Microsoft has a plan to improve Bing's poor indexing | |

Recently a user on the Bing community forums asked why his new site was taking so long to be indexed by Redmond's search engine, to which a Microsoft employee replied that the slowness was an unfortunately expected behavior. User prathaban1 wanted to know why www.kidandparent.in, which he submitted to the Webmaster Console using a sitemap.xml almost six weeks ago (and Bing calculates has about 14 backlinks) was not getting any love from Microsoft. He said he managed to get the homepage indexed with the help of a Brett Yount, Program Manager of the Bing Webmaster Center, but that was nothing compared to what Google and Yahoo had done: they indexed almost 400 and 200 pages, respectively. | ||

| I set Bing as my start page to see what the daily picture is but inevitably switch over to Google to find anything. You can find stuff with Bing, it just takes 2 or 3 times as long. |

Really? Funny how our engineers use Bing as their main engine daily now, and 6 months ago you couldn't pry Google from them. Do you live in the real world, or just your opinion based reality because you don't use Bing? Right now the technology of 'returned content' doesn't differ between Google and Bing a lot, and Bing adds in collection based results and category naviagtion of the results. #3 - Slower? You do know the 'indexing' problem is server side crawling the sites. It isn't slower at returning results to people using Bing? Right? | Wow... touchy much? It's not like you wrote it, it's not your baby... no-one insulted your mother. Get a grip man! They were able to index exactly 0 pages in 6 weeks - that's pathetic... so perhaps Bing is working great for your team... they must not require any new information that's been added in the last 6 weeks in which case... good on them! The rest of us don't have this problem when using Google :) |

#5, No, slower in that I have to hunt through more pages of search results to find what I'm looking for as opposed to being at the top of the first page on Google.
WTF is the comment about some arbitrary group of "engineers" now using Bing?! Are these real engineers or software "engineers" by the way? No ring, no accreditation, that's not a real engineer. I wish people would stop tossing that term around so frivolously. |

Man, I haven't been here in awhile but it's good to see the same pro-MS nonsense continuing in my absence.

I suspect he lives in the real world where people use Google. #6: Wow... touchy much? It's not like you wrote it, it's not your baby... No, but he's a microbot and Bing is Microsoft's baby, so in essence it's his baby too. Can't let any slight of MS go unchallenged, dontcha know. #8: WTF is the comment about some arbitrary group of "engineers" now using Bing?! It's a logical fallacy commonly called 'appeal to authority.' By claiming that his crack squad of software engineer commandos all switched to Bing en masse (and you know how engineers know everything), he is attempting to make the connection that smart people who know everything use Bing. Of course, his sample size is miniscule, and there could be lots of rational reasons they now use Bing (assuming botavenger is actually telling the truth and that these supposed engineers even exist at all.) It's not a valid argument and is really a red herring to be ignored. |
