2 Million Downloads and Counting: Why Such Loyalty for Microsoft Office? | |

In the past seven weeks, more than 2 million people have downloaded the beta for Microsoft Office 2010. That's a whopping 40,000 downloads per day. It's a record breaking pace, surpassing the beta release for Microsoft Office 2007.

Cause it's really really good. Easy (enough) to use, functional, responsive and, yes, good looking.
I tried to switch my home computers to OpenOffice (from Office 2003), just to end up with Office 2007 Home & Student. Works great. |

Well besides the fact that the Beta is free I believe, speaking on my own experience, that MS Office is better than the free alternatives.
Said that and in spite of the fact that I like Office 2010 a lot, I will probably not buy it because of the cost of the new Suite; the disappeareance of the Upgrade SKU could very well hurt MS income instead of boost it. This post was edited by Fritzly on Thursday, January 07, 2010 at 13:01. |

| one major reason would be because there are so many apps in vba that make it neessary to run office. i write custom vba apps for clients and they would never get anything done if they had to rely on google docs. |

| #4: not only the VBA apps, but the 3rd party plug-ins/add-ins. I've asked that question many times about online office suites, and the answer is always crickets. They either just don't have an answer, or don't seem to care, perhaps thinking that it doesn't really matter to "most" users. It's a consumer-oriented mindset, but captures business attention with the "$0" price tag. Not to say there isn't any business uses (and the collaboration possibilities are cool--something Microsoft is addressing), but at this point, most business are much better served by MS Office. |
