Well, having just geeked-out with a pair of Zune HDs for about an hour, I am tentatively reaffirming my faith in Microsoft. This thing was worth the wait, folks. Mind you, it's not going to crush the iPod Touch--a product that for all intents and purposes is more mobile computer than media player--but it's safe to say that the Zune finally has the power to make good on the promise of delivering one of the richest music experiences on a portable device. | ||

Pu-lease........ This no more has a chance against the iPod than OSX has against Win7. Nobody seems to get that once you get a certain amount of penetration in a tech market that everyone else is just an "also ran".
Every one talks about choice but in the real world of tech there is only room for one. One that for instance works with all the various docks, desktop programs and download services. It's also what your best bud is using. It's familiar and god only knows you've spent hours learning the interface. Why change? If you're a geek you look at all the MP3 players and think hard before making a choice for an iPod. Heads up to the EU. There is only one way to make the tech landscape more competitive; subsidize the loosers. Only problem, they will remain loosers. Oldog may be right, but I hope not. I hope there is enough synergy and integration between platform members to make a real difference - fusion of: Zune Marketplace, Xbox Live Marketplace, Windows 7, Home Group based sharing, palce-shifting from Windows 7 media player, Media Center, new Dish Network MCE compat devices, Windows Mobile and of course, Netflix and DLNa compliant TV's and media appliances, including extenders.
Whew..... ok sounds crazy, but what it means is that from one Windows 7 PC, one can aggregate all forms of HD media and share it out all across one's life - home, work, travel, car, phone, note/net book, etc.... from one place and without a bunch of fuss. Set up your home group. Populate the integrated Zune SW, elect to share it - the rest is pretty much automatic as each of the other interfaces can see it. We do this now, largely and share media all over our lives (meaning our home, offices, and devices we take with us). Play to... rocks. Play in one location, move to another and the media follows you - slick... slick... slick - it picks up right where it left off. I think it is finally all starting to come together. Oh... plug in some home control and a few z-wave devices and you can automate your home fairly quickly. |

#1 If you've spent hours learning the ipod/itouch/iphone interface... then quite honestly... you're a retard. Not in the mean, I'm picking on you way... in the bell curve of intelligence kind of way... a retard. Those interfaces take no more than a few minutes to learn no matter what your background is and is a large reason why those products are so successful. The reason why most competitors products have been and do resemble the ipod/itouch/iphone isn't just to be a "me too" clone - it's also because the interfaces designed for them are simple and intuitive, something that those same competitors struggled with for years - i still remember my old O2 XDA - aside from the phone itself having god knows how many buttons to click on, the OS was completely different, function wise, across almost every single application.
The only nice thing about this Zune (as all the previous ones have been hideously ugly) is the OLED screen and that's simply not going to be enough. Apple had a chance to put OLED screens in this year (not sure why they didn't) which would have given it an advantage across the board. |

| I am looking forward to the HDRadio. It seems like a simple way to bring that into my car/home stereo without having to buy all new equipment. On the plus side is the portability and MP3 management. Now if it really works as advertised... |
