Google already has its own form of Linux it uses to run its gazzilion servers so to Krishnan’s point, why is it re-inventing the wheel? Would it not have been easier to build out of that? Maybe it has and we just haven’t been told. That would be a smart move because then you could see how Google might put servers in the Internet cloud. The initial target seems to be the Netbook but I don’t see how anyone can realistically extrapolate that to world dominance of the entire PC market, let alone the crucially important server market. The last figures I saw say the total Notebook shipments were 5.62 million. That was in December 2008 so let’s be incredibly generous and double the number for the last six months. That means some 15 million Netbooks in the market. That’s pretty small potatoes when you think there are some 12 million Blackberries alone in the market. It also ignores predictions that it will be the smartphone that becomes the dominant device, at least in the markets that are growing. | ||

No, Latch, that is not it. Anyone who demonstrates a persistent lack of the will to exercise anything that resembles pragmatism, is probably an arrogant statist overly reliant upon populist memes to advance their agenda among the masses. That such people may also be dems, communists, nun-beaters and or baby-rapers, is irrelevant to the fact that the original challenge such people face is that the truth, facts and material evidence means nothing to them - leaving them hopelessly and sadly, intentionally removed from the pragmatic base upon which decisions should be formed.
This article represents one tiny island of decent analysis that is sober and thoughtful - e.g., practical, pragmatic and prudent - as opposed to being laced with opinions based more upon wishful thinking than they are reality. |

#9: Strip away ketchum's right-wing rhetoric and his posts are generally quite enlightening. I have heard him criticize MS on a number of occasions most recently regarding genuine advantage and non-approved windows updates/reboots. He does tend to go strong with the pom poms with respect to Microsoft technology but that is no doubt because he has had great success with those technologies (as many of us here have).

The man knows his stuff in many areas of Microsoft. That's never been up for debate. I have heard him criticize MS on a number of occasions most recently regarding genuine advantage and non-approved windows updates/reboots. In all the years I've posted here, those two are the ONLY things he's ever been critical of. All the other nasty work he either downplays or explains away. I often throw MS's latest gaffe at him just to see how creative he is with a rationalization. Parker on the other hand... Speak not his name or he shall appear! |
