One of MS's sock puppets, ACT, has stated today that the EU commission must let MS do as it pleases or it will be The End of the World.
"Don't remove IE's code," Zuck (Jonathan Zuck, president of the Association for Competitive Technology (ACT)) said, adding: "I don't care whether the application is there or not but software developers need IE's code in order to do their work," he said.
I've worked for several software companies that write for Windows. We must not be software developers because we have never needed IE for anything. Apparently, in this day of many browser choices, IE is still the glue that holds the Universe together.
"The Commission seems intent on ending the functionality of Windows. If it strips out IE what will it strip out next? Where will it stop?" he asked.
When you can't force someone to do something, the next trick is to scare them into it. Yes, if you force MS to bundle competing browsers, the next thing you know the EU will decree that you can't use a mouse anymore. And then they'll take away networking! Next thing you know, you'll be entering your code on punch cards! Oh, won't someone stop the insanity?!?!
