RealNetworks Partners With Sony To Battle Microsoft In Multimedia | |

Sony Corp. on Wednesday said it acquired a 1 percent stake in multimedia software provider RealNetworks Inc. in a partnership that will battle Microsoft Corp. for Internet multimedia supremacy. The stake, worth a little more than $11 million at today's market prices, gives Real a powerful backer and partner as it aims to move its audio- and video-delivery software into new markets. Real and Microsoft are the leaders in multimedia-playback software, but the battle will soon take to new ground targeting broadband delivery and new platforms like rival video game platforms. | ||

Because MS decided to piss everyone off, instead of playing nice. On a related note--although this is rumor, allegedly Apple is prepared to release a Windows iPod and like with iTunes, it will be tied to a specific app. The rumor part is that this softwre is provided by Real with some work from Apple to make it look a little bit like iTunes. |

I don't get what you are trying to ask macross. Are you suggesting that companies don't like MS? Because I know all the softies think MS is great and that a monopoly and absolute dominance is a good thing, but I also think it's pretty obvious that MS has enemies in Real, Oracle, Sun, Nokia, Sony, Novell, IBM, the Linux community, Apple, etc, etc...
I don't know what the # of lawsuits has to do with just about every other major player not wanting to deal with MS. This is an obvious and undesirable fact--I wonder when you all will realize that it's not a good thing to be one of the most dispised companies in the world. And, yes, that's the rumor--very interesting, huh? |

| macross, it seems like you all of a sudden forgot how to speak English. If you'd like a reply, you'd better get back to editing. I have no idea what direction your first 2 comments are going, and the third I agree with except your use of the word control. You think Dell "controls" Intel? Please! Dell can "influence" Intel maybe. Make that replacement, and you have exactly my point--other business can negotiate with each other and with MS you cannot--companies can have little to zero influence with MS--hence, they CAN "control" the industry which is why they are in Court to this day. |

Yes, I agree MS has full control of whoever they wish whereas other companies do business with each other because they can provide some incentive to do business--hence influence--but no, certainly not control. Which, as I say, is why MS is in court today and nobody wishes to do business with them. As I said, I don't know why the softies aren't pissed that their favoraite company pisses everyone off so they aren't doing as much collaboration as other companies are. |

#18 - Our company has dealt with them on a business level, and really had no issues.
Untill you start arguing specifics, it does sure sound like jealousy. |
