The climax to the Microsoft remedy trial--Bill Gates' testimony--has come and gone and it's a fair time to analyze where things stand and to imagine what the software industry will look like post-judgment. ZDNN has its own analysis loaded with quotes from the usual gang of lawyers, including the ubiquitous Rich Gray of Menlo Park, California. A consensus is emerging. | ||

This guy is one of the more interesting ZDNet columnists. He was quoted in the netcraft survey that came out because he pondered why IIS was so popular despite all the media hype against it. He basically concluded that maybe media pundits were out of touch with the computer world and thus didn't get it.
Then this article is kind of refreshing. I have to agree, once again the state's relied upon bad advice. Instead of listening to consumers and really trying to understand the issues, they listened to MS competitors who were intent on doing one thing... crippling MS. The file format spec should have been obvious, far moreso than forcing publication of the source. |

I agree Sodablue, this is quite a refreshing article from the likes of ZDNet.
Not just because it's "pro-MS", but because it's anti-FUD. |

I totally agree. Its not that the Article was Pro MS but that it was actually written by someone with a brain.
He brings up great points... and while those anti-ms will hate it, they will have to admit that he makes valid points across the board. |

I think MS will have a problem with that because you have not properly defined what you mean by application. This effectively says "MS cannot make any more modifications to the OS" which is a death sentence for Windows in the long term.
You need to start getting this through your head, as I'm really tired of having to point this out over and over again. |
