Microsoft has appointed JWT to an estimated $100m campaign to launch its Kumo search engine and win market share away from Yahoo! and Google.
This spring Microsoft plans the launch of its new search product, tentatively called Kumo, and has trusted JWT with the difficult task of convincing web users that Kumo is not only different, but better than market giant Google and number-two Yahoo!.

#1, You have to admire them for that 'consistently persistent' way they go about things.

Well, marketing campaigns to prove "we're better" definitely worked for Ask.com. Oh, wait....

Latch, I'll give you a free keyboard for only $29.95 shipping and processing fee. You can't beat free now can you? In fact, I'll give you as many as you want, anyone in fact, for the small low fee.
I expect Kumo to do quite well, for a few days, and then fade into the background. Maybe if MS starts up a large number of search sites in total they might do pretty well. Google's simplicity in style, and relevant results are hard to beat.

I hope MS never relents. I hope that they continue to work on Kumo, or whatever they call their search product and that it evolves to be better than Google - and Google counters, and so on. Live certainly has some a long way, and I suspect as Kumo replaces it, it will do well.

#7: Thanks but I'll pass.
#8: Hi Parkkker. Still can't post more than 4 words without an edit, eh?
#9: MS doesn't seem to have a lot of long-term sticktoitivness at times. If they aren't making the kind of money they expect to after a couple of years, they may very well fold up shop on Search. That's the problem with trying to stick their fingers in too many pies at once. It also seems to be a trend with a lot of corps these days. The short-term mentality of instant gain or it's not worth it.
