Brandon LeBlanc: As of today, I am running the Windows 7 Beta on several different PCs including my laptop, my work PC, and my PC at home, which I upgraded recently to Windows 7 from Windows Vista SP1. (I’ll be outlining the PCs I’m using to test Windows 7 shortly.) I’m all connected with HomeGroup, I’ve got several different Libraries set up, and I’m loving the new Windows Taskbar. I’ve got Windows Media Center recording my favorite TV shows and my Zune 80 syncing up with the Zune software. And things are even better with Windows Live Essentials installed. I find the Windows 7 Beta to be an amazing beta release and I am extremely excited for you to get your hands on it later this week! I’d like to take a moment to share some specifics regarding the Windows 7 Beta that I think are very important for people looking to give Windows 7 a spin. | ||

Hi,
now all downloads are available for TechNet Plus (VL) and MSDN Pro (VL) subscription users. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 I don't know if for all subscriptions available. Have a nice Window - Alexander |

Ok, downloads are started but I can't get a key. It says:
An Error Has Occurred There was an error error while trying to retrieve requsted key information and we cannot process your request. |

| Actual only MSND for windows Server 2008 R2 and TechNet for both is open to catch a license key. MSDN is not opend to catch a Windows 7 key. |

I'm a technet plus subscriber. That's where I'm downloading it from.
When you click on the Key link, it pops up an error message. |

| Probably just volume of people accessing causing the error. I wouldn't worry about it as you can install without the key anyways. Windows 7 goes public tomorrow so it should be easy to get a key in the next 30 days before you need to activate. |

Is that the same update that's along side it in TechNet?
BTW... I talked to the TechNet "Online Concierge" about the key issue. It's a known issue that has been reported upstream. That chat system works suprisingly well :) TL |

now that a larger number of people are installing Win7 BETA, Live MESH subscribers take note:
If you have Live MESH installed, you will experience an odd window border behavior. No matter what you set your theme, or window color to, Live MESH will turn it to a black color - affecting the task bar as well. Even when you reset it, it will turn black again whenever you open windows explorer, or explore your user folder. Removing Live MESH from the test computer where you are running Win7 Build 7000 will resolve the issue. |

| Who was the genius that put that "show desktop" thing in the right-bottom corner? This is hard to hit when you have dual monitor setup. God.. hope they let us move it elsewhere. |

Yeah i noticed this also in my testing also. Very strange but I assume Mesh or 7 will have an update soon to correct it. I just removed it for the time being. |

Boy... the shrill are out in force already.... Adrian Kingsley-Hughes over at ZDNet has a list pub'd of "Six new annoyances introduced in Windows 7"... sheesh...
I guess they could be... if a) they were things one could not adjust, or b) they were things that were truly annoying, because they persisted... but dang... some of them are just silly observations. All are UI/UX related and before anyone testing the new Windows lost their minds and jumped on the Windows SuX0rs band-wagon too fast, I wanted to offer one small point: "Clearly, Windows 7 is designed for new, modern hardware. Equally, Windows 7's UI is designed for larger wide format displays. Period. Given its pretty clear targets and how things are trending in hardware (read, cheap large displays and touch laptops, and 'netbooks requiring larger targets for our fat big hands), Windows 7's UI begins to make a lot of sense. Finally, it is improbable that buyers of Windows 7 are going to stuff the new OS onto older hardware - after all, I am sure Mr. Kingsley-Hughes will tell all of us a year from now how Windows 7 has not sold well.... despite 200,000,000 or so copies being in use." Oh, and you can set things up so they look more or less like Vista, or Win 95 for that matter - so that aging 15" 4:3 display may still be used. |

| #13: Don't start priming the pump already on the "world-wide anti-W7 media conspiracy" angle. The buzz has been good. People are still going to complain about things they think could be better. You don't have to agree with them but they are entitled to their opinion. |

it isn't quite that at all, Latch... it is that the observations - at least some of them, were silly... and despite the pundits and analysts being close to the BETA, they don't seem to understand the design.
That said, I'm not a huge fan of the new design. I can live with it, but aside from a couple of new ways to move among open windows being cool, it all feels a bit off to me and I have been using it for some time. The buzz has been good, you say, and that may be true, but if that is so, then the buzz about Vista should have been great. When one has used either in their present form, they feel about the same - with a slight edge being in favor of Vista. |

I grabbed the build off a torrent a week ago but haven't really spent much time playing with it. Just one more turn in Galactic Civilizations 2 and then I'll check out W7... just one more turn...
I notice the Sidebar seems to have been removed. |

#16, Yeah, the side-bar as it was has been removed, but regardless, Gadgets may be placed on the side and aligned as they were previously.
Also, contrart to the perception being advanced, Gadgets could always be placed at any location on the desktop in Vista - in fact, the implementation is actually better in Vista, as many large display users permanently displayed the side bar, or placed it on a second display. Similarly, Gadgets often had two forms - standard smaller size in the side bar and an expanded version when placed on the desktop. The current Windows 7 implementation is exactly as it is in OS X and Konfabulator, in that they are just dropped on the desktop and visible when Aero Peek is accessed. While Aero Peek is okay, I don't care for what seems to be a step back toward Kinfabulator/OS X's implementation - seems much more like Win 98's Active Desktop... Oh well... |
