AVG Virus Scanner Removes Critical Windows File | |

"The popular virus scanner AVG released an update yesterday that caused their software to mark user32.dll as a virus. Since this is a rather critical file, AVG's suggestion to remove it caused problems for users around the world who are now advised to restore the file through the Windows Recovery Console. AVG just posted an update about this (FAQ item 1574) in the support section of their site. Their forums are full of complaints." | ||

| #3: I know several people who use AVG, have used it for years, and have never had a problem or a virus. I know this user32.dll issue is bad and I'm not defending them, but I've never heard of any real problems with them in general. Usually it's Symantec hosing the system. I just cleaned SEP off my work system due to its bugs. |

I use AVG on the girlfriend's laptop at home, works perfectly fine... problems with false detections are not common but they do happen - humans are not perfect.
This AVG one is "up there" but one of my favourites is the CA AntiVirus 7.x incorrectly seeing part of the Citrix ICA client as a virus and the 'virus detection' policy we were using at the time said to automatically delete it! We had lots of fun re-rolling out the ICA client to 2500 PCs - within a hospital network which uses Citrix for everything! 'twas a fun few hours! |
