Windows Vista No Longer Matters | |

Make no mistake: Microsoft has moved beyond Windows Vista, which will become all too apparent during this week's Professional Developer Conference. Windows 7 is the future, and in many ways it's the present, too.

| I thought Vista was outselling XP at this pace in it's life. How is it that Vista no longer matters when it is selling better than XP did? |

Well, Microsoft will say what it needs to say, from a marketing standpoint, as it goes along.
As soon as Win7 ships, Vista will become the red-headed step-child as far as MS is concerned. We'll here the usual company line: 1. It's more stable. 2. It's more secure. 3. It's faster. 4. It has more of that "Genuine Advantage" thing going on. 5. Etc... There are no mysteries here. This same scenario has been played out starting with Win95 in 1995 with every release. The reality of said statements has varied per release/ |

| No more Windows OS for us! I started with DOS / Windows and watched the MS Evolution. We use WinXp Pro and that will be the end of the line for us. Who needs all the 'bells and whistles' for a fast Internet Connection? I want to RENT online software, not buy something with eternal 'updates'. |

I for one would never consider using on-line software or storage.
After a year and half with Vista it was a success for me. Windows 7 from what I’ve seen will look a lot like Vista. The upgrades I made to my PC were worth it, more ram and a better power supply. I've had no problems with Vista, none, nada, zip. |

Someone said it best, when someone leaves the mac store they have a smile on their face. That simple face cant bold well for them long term.
Microsoft fumbled the football, Vista on it's own merit is a good OS. But people expected more. It would seem that the managers/bean counters as MS has won and those with innovative thought are being pushed to the back. I look no further than the botched winmobile vs Iphone as an example of Microsoft's future |

| #3: It might depend by how the supposed "outselling" is calculated; in more general terms statistics are an interesting art that allows you to say everything and, at the same time, the exact opposite. |

| #9: MS was never dominant in the mobile space. The market was ready for a new standard in phones. The iPhone set that standard much as the iPod killed off Sony's hopes of ever getting the Walkman back into the mainstream. In servers, networks and PCs Microsoft's tentacles reach very far and very deep such that nothing we say matters. They will be around a long time and 90% of us will use Windows, Vista or otherwise. |

| #3: Shipments of PCs have doubled over the past 5-6 years. In that context, Vista isn't even close to XP in sales. |
