VMware denies Microsoft gained market share at its expense | |

VMware Inc. officials have objected to an assertion by IDC that VMware has lost some of its industry-leading market share to Microsoft Corp., claiming instead that Microsoft's new Hyper-V product has barely made a dent in sales in the short time it's been available.

VMwares license revenue rose 15% year over year. The previous quarter it was 39% year over year.
Wanna bet what this quarter brings ... how about 0 %. Yes, services revenue grew very well. People are paying a lot of money to install a product more complex than they really need. |

If VMware was easy to use and install, license revenue would be growing faster than service revenue.
But it is just the opposite. If license revenue growth drops to 0 ... that means no new sales. #2 From your posts, you have no clue either. |

And it appears VMware is running out of "Professional Data Center staff" to buy VMware. "Oh, wait, you work for a school... " And we have ESX. And we paid Dell to help with the install on the new Dell hardware. And I believe ESX is overkill for our needs. We could have bought twice as much hardware and continued to use VMware Server for free (at the time). As of now I would recommend Hyper-V. And you knw, thousands of business are making those kind of decisions and it doesn't bode well for VMware. This post was edited by NotParkerToo on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 12:35. |
