The Microsoft-Novell Deal and Trust in Princes | |

Bruce Byfield: So Microsoft and Novell are extending their two year old partnership. Is anyone really surprised? Similar, if smaller, deals are announced by other partners on an almost daily basis. The truth is, the deal is not nearly as insightful as the reactions to it in the free and open source (FOSS) community.

| While Novell said at the time the original deal was signed that this in no way validated MS's patent FUD, MS still continues to spew this lie and Novell stays silent. Oh well, it's amazing what BS you can stand when someone's paying you $100M. |

After all, Novell needs to obey the license if it is going to distribute a GNU/Linux distribution.
But, the truth is that, by preventing similar deals, the GPL has given Novell a commercial advantage until its original deal with Microsoft expires four years from now. From a purely business perspective, what is more logical than using that advantage as strongly as possible while you still can? | #4: Tell me, do you *ever* do any of your own thinking? Every post of yours is just cut & pasted text from some other source. And when you do venture outside of quoting others, you're as thick as a fence post. I understand that all you can do is quote others since it apparently hurts your head to think on your own. That said, I'm not sure why you posted that snippet. This is one guy's opinion and he certainly does not speak for the FOSS community, no matter how he frames his opinions. What does he even mean when he says corporations will act like corporations? That's like saying people are like people. OK.... which people, Hitler or Mother Theresa? Some corporations are good world citizens, and other convicted monopolist corporations not so much. |

A minority, of course, cling to the original party-line, and condemn business unreservedly. Often in school and young, they have little real world experience to draw upon. "Basically, the “boundary” is simply an imaginary dotted line drawn around a volume of something when there is going to be a change in the internal energy of that something. Anything that passes across the boundary that effects a change in the internal energy of the something needs to be accounted for in the energy balance equation."
