Microsoft will be a serious competitor for VMware becuase the price is something that organisations will not be able to get away from looking at, especially as the Worldeconomy is rocky.. The Hyper-V solution specifically does lack some serious features but at the price it ships for, what did you expect ?? What this has created is a market for third party vendors to compliment this infrastructure. Now the common problems that organisations face are the various Virtulisations vendors they have to choose from and you say problem, how ?? Well most of these organisations are already using Microsoft, Citriix and even VMware in some shape or form and as these vendors have various license agreements meaning low cost upgrades to further products/features for the organisations then they will typically look at these options. Now when an organisations Virtualises or is considering to Virtualise then they know they will have to make an intial investment, but the ongoing ROI is what customers need, They need solutions that are web based, vendor agnostic, easy to use, cost effective, provide automation and involve no expensive training. Now pretty much all solutions in the market to date are built for specific vendors and are application based. One console in one place with no mobility too. People in organisations that make descisons are always on the move so the ability to look a there IT whereever they are and whatever they are responsible for is key. To increase performance whether it be software, car or plane, youfirst need visibility and then need to be able to control it, then you need to MANAGE it. The key criteria for managing virtualised environments is resource capacity. In a non-virtualised world everything is running at 20%, in a virtualised world they are running at 80% with only 20% headroom. Capacity planning needs to be done at each stage of virtualization deployment. Keeping track how much capacity to initially buy, how the capacity is being utilised and when to add capacity is a must.
If they were solutions out today that are web based, vendor agnostic, easy to use, cost effective, provide automation and involve no expensive training, then increasing performance on solutions like Hyper-V can be acheived, Luckily there is, TOUTVIRTUAL i'll leave you to make our own minds up but if you are interested then contact me. The point i have tried to make here is that you cannot evaluate performance in its entireity until you have complete control. But to have complete control its needs to be easy and cost effective, TOUTVIRTUAL at £35 per CPU easily achieves that.
